NEW UK DATA PROTECTION BILL
From 25th May 2018, the new EU General Data Protection Regulations come into force, which introduce new data protection rights for consumers, and this Bill will put into UK law comparable rules that all companies must follow.
The government made the commitment to introduce the new Bill in the Queen’s Speech in June, and issued a call for views on what flexibilities within GDPR it should take advantage of. No indication of the government’s policy intentions were contained in the consultation paper.
Initial reviews of the new Bill indicate that proposals do not go further than what the UK will be required to do in any case under the GDPR.
